Hello all, Just canvassing opinions on moving fish/tanks, a friend is selling his 4 foot tank (Juwel) with 6 pirahnas and they are gonna have to travel for a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure the fish will be fine but is it ok just to transport the filter in some tank water? will it need to be airated? should we try to keep some of the water? Any advice would be great as i've not had any experience with anything like this before and i said i'd help out :)
Many thanks

Is it being shipped or driven?

Bag fish with lots of air, put in cooler with newspapers.

Keep the media moist and the bacteria shoudl survive for a few hours.

If you keep the gravel wet, you shouldn't need the old tank water as much (if you can't ship it).

Get the readings for your friend's tank and try to match them in your own tank, gradually changing it to close to the tap water readings over time.

Its being driven, the tank is gonna be used for the same fish (its a 'all in one sale') so thats why i thought about bringing some original water but if the gravel will suffice thats cool. Thanks for the idea bout the cooler, i was gonna try and get some polystyrine fish boxes that the pirahnas came in originally (and triple bag them, sharp teeth, ouch...) but that could be a winner :)
Cheers dude
