hi folks,
been looking on youtube at moving bed filters and they look good, some say their ammonia etc lowered to zero when using one. to my understanding the bacteria are stronger as the dead or weak bacteria get knocked off by the colliding media but only the strongest media keeps attached and feeds heavily on ammonia. would it be the same if i removed all the media from my second external filter and filled it with bio balls, they would move around and collide alot causing the same thing? saves me putting a plastic bottle in my nice display tank.
any ideas? or is their no point as my fish are happy and breeding

lowered ammonia to zero?

that's what a properly cycled filter should be doing anyone....bar the trace amounts that are always present but at undetectable levels.

Sorry Jamesmacc. Bioballs like I use are not at all the same thing as the media in a fluidized bed. These are my bioballs.

The media in a fluidized bed filter would look more like coarse sand.
