One of the most important aspects of transferring your fish will be to preserve the bacterial colonies in the tank so that there is a smoother transition once you get the tank set up at your new place. A good way to do this would be to empty all your gravel, and a good amount of tank water into the same bucket, a good 5 gal with a tight fitting cover. You will want to transfer the gravel and water to the bucket smoothly.
To transfer the fish you should put them in another 5 gal bucket with a tight fitting top, or go to a local lfs and ask them for one of the boxes their fish were shipped in. These boxes have styrofoam lining inside and will help guard the fish against the elements. You will need to keep the bucket from bouncing around, and you will need to make sure it is warm during transport. It would be wise to invest in a battery operated air pump so you can run tubing and an airstone into the bucket and provide oxygen.
Once you get your tank set up at your new place you should get some biozyme, lab produced bacteria and put that in the tank to jump-start the bio-filtration.
