Hi , i have just added a pair of motoros to my 8x2x2 tank and was hoping for a little more info on them as i havent kept them before.
I'm not naive , i have kept fish for 10 years or so and have done my homework before buying these.
I wanted to know a bit more about tankmates , i have been told cichlids are a no-no unless they are very big and non aggressive or in a shoal big enough to be kept active and not bother the rays.
Sounds ok in theory but i'm still not sure.
Anyhow , i have the following in the tank , please let me know how you think they will all do.
2 12 inch + oscars , these are the most placid fish , sometimes they cant even be bothered to swim !
3 jardini around 9inch
6 parrots 4inch
1 kissing 1 moonlight 2 silver gourami all around 5 inch
3 tinfoils around 5 inch
2 2 spot barbs around 5 inch
3 red finned cigar sharks around 6 inch
1 firemouth 3 inch
1 banjo catfish 6 inch
2 rainbow sharks
1 unknown cichlid , a bit aggressive i know its male
3 african knife fish 5 inch
1 mbu puffer 8 inch

I know this sounds alot , but in my experience with 8x2x2 tanks , there is alot of space and the fish dont always seperate to utilise it , but this setup is now well over 2 years old and i have a great mix .
But please let me know what you think and any advice is greatly appreciated.
By the way the motoros are 7/8 inch female and 5/6 inch male , been kept together for a long time , not sure exactly how long , and have been in the tank for about 4 hours now , swimming around constantly not been fed yet , cheers.

you must be jokeing with that amount of fish in the tank

the jardini aros are very agressive and will attach most fish in the tank and kill each other within 2 days of them being put in the same tank no matter how big it is

you should get the mbu puffer out asap or your rays will have big chunks or eyes missing within a few days

how long chould a 5-6inch male motoro been with the female for at 5-6inch they are only 6 months old max

this sound like some kind of joke do you have any pictures of this tank ?

wait for it dont tell us your cam is broken or at a freinds house and you will get it back in a few days

Hi , firstly , no its not a joke , and secondly please dont patronise me , yes i have a camera yes i will take pics and no it is not at a friends house. The jardini are not agressive at all , they take no notice whatsoever of any of the other fish , they are well fed and have enough space to stay out of the way of most of the other fish.
Fair enough on the mbu , although again , he stays out of everyones way and i have never seen him aggressive towards anything.
The firemouth and the unknown cichlid have shown some aggresion towards eachother and the parrots , but generally stay apart , and the 2 rainbow sharks often tussle over the cave but recently have been swimming together.
So please , constructive views only and i will post pics .

well i have kept aros and rays for years and i can garantee you their is no way that you can keep more than 1 jardini aro per tank its just not possable

i look forward to seeing the pics but until then you wont be getting any help from me

a 8x2x2ft tank is not big enought for mottoro long term the grow to 24inch disk

ooops sorry lets see the pics 1st then we will talk about what are good fish to keep with the rays

lets see how long it takes to post them if you have problems just email them to me i will pm you my email address

ah i see you cant accept PMs their you go email the pics hear T1KARMANN@aol.com

T1KARMANN , please , i have seen jardini by the tank full , granted not fully grown , but certainly not babies.
These 3 have been together for at least 1 year , they have been moved from a 6x2x2 to an 8x2x2 , they are healthy , happy fish and not aggressive , ever. What can i say , i'm not a liar , just maybe the fish you have encountered over your fish keeping years are "by the book " fish , i dont know , but mate , if you dont believe , wait for the pics. And in the meantime , ask around for others experience in keeping more than 1 aro.
With regards your comment on the puffer , i appreciate your thughts , i might consider losing the mbu , but i will keep an extra close watch on him , although , i swear , he is not aggressive either. cheers anyhow.

T1KARMANN , my digicam is dead , email me your mobile number i will take a couple of pics and send them that way for now , PDSJDA@UKONLINE.CO.UK

you are tieing your self in more knots mate all aros grow at 1inch per month so unless you got them at -2inch then you have not had them 1yr

you may well have seen tanks full of jardinis thats because you need to keep more than 6 aros in a com to make it work jardini are the most aggressive of all aros and would kill each other in less than a week if you kept just 3

were are the pics you have my email address

You wont have to wait long , they are sent , and again the growth sizes you mention are "by the book" , experience is 100 times beter than any text you can read.
Every fish is different eh , cheers

Thanks to T1KARMANN for clearing this up , my aros are south american silvers not asian jardini as i thought.
Cheers mate.

no problem

this stock list is crazy but true

the aros are silvers thats why their are 3 in the tank and not killing each other
