Most expensive fish ever?

Rareness of the fish, difficulty in breeding or obtaining it and the beauty of the fish all contribute to its inflated price tag, but the real reason for the price of this, or pretty much any thing is the law of 'supply & demand'.
This means that things are worth what people will pay; this fish is £700 because there are people who are willing to pay £700.

I've never spent this much on a fish, but I did pay £900 for a parrot a couple of years ago!

I hope your parrott is still alive and kicking :D

If only guppies went for that amount I would be laughing all the way to the bank, I have two females and there is always at least one of them pregnant

super reds are 35 000 dollars up here
and then golds are worth even more

I believe the most expensive fish are gold koi they cost like $100 000
Paul MTS has an asian arrowowna that he must have paid at least one thousand for

Just looked up those Arrowanas and you would need a massive tank for those things, well at least they live for a long time anyway.

one lfs near me has a pair of pure white koi
they will sell them for £250,000
yes that is a quarter of a million pounds

(I think they have just stuck that price on knowing they will never sell
George and Gracie, bring in people to the shop in droves.)

as for the arowanas, as has been said, availablity and breed has to be taken into account when pricing fish. my most local lfs has arowanas priced at £29.99 (no idea what species) seems like a bargin to me.

most expensive fish i'ved clocked my eyes on is the 20" tigrinus merodontus at Shotgates aquatics for £1200.

i paid £300 for my red tail gold, bred in a reputible farm (Wan Hu).

I doubt the guy will get that although it looks beutiful like i have you can usually fin them cheaper, i think Wharf knocked the prices down on there asians to about £5-600.

A quarter of a million pounds :S £250,000.00  , I hope they are not schooling fish or that could be even more expensive!!

I am obviously living in the wrong part of the country, with regards to choice.

My lfs has a very limited stock of tetras, guppies and gouramis etc. If I want anything else I have to travel 150 miles into Belfast.
