I bought a pair of Green swordtails about 3 weeks a go thinking i had a male and female but no i got two males.
The one i thought was a female has no sword on the tail but i just noticed a black line alone the base of it and a tail a stub about 1mm sticking out from the bottom of the tail.
also noticed the genopodium (sp).

Bah wanted some babies.

ive been there. real pain isnt it  i bought 3 females, and all of them developed into males, kust be careful things can get hairy with males together

I can definitely sympathize JDubz. Many of us get some juvenile swords and only later find there are males we thought were females. I have some wild type green swords that all looked like juvenile females for over 6 months after I got them. One finally developed a sword in December and there is another that I think may be a male but is still not truly showing male characteristics. In my case, I had started trying to figure out where I was going to get a suitable wild type male for breeding so in my case it was a good thing finding a stealth male among the females. I know that it is not always good news though.
