I still have my Betta, Morse Code.

Recently I've noticed that he hangs out at the top of his tank more often and he is quick to flare up when I come around.

He eats, shows no signs of outward illness and nothing has changed with his food, habitat or location.

Until now he would like to hide in his log but was quick to come out and up at feeding time.

I just don't know if his sudden unusual activity is a sign of some stress I'm unaware of.

Any ideas?

I think I figured it out. I moved the tank thinking I should do a partial water change and I noticed that the filter wasn't running. I tore it apart, cleaned it and put it back together. It's running now but I have no idea when or why it stopped. It was plugged in.

The impeller will gunk up with random bits of floating particles, plant mass, poo and uneaten food etc. Depending on what filter you have gauges how long it can go without maintenance though I always squeeze my sponges every week with the water change and thoroughly clean the internal of the filter every 3 weeks.
