More Guppy Fry.

Hi my guppys are definetly doing a grand job of adding to the tank.
I thought that if i left the girls to have their fry in the community tank then nature would control numbers a little
especially when i have neons in there.
I have set up another tank now to grow some more on and try to sex them before they get to the breeding stage them selves.
When do they colour up as they are now36 days old plus they now have three day old siblings.
Love em though very entertaining to watch.

Were very many of the fry eaten up? One of the gals at a LFS who sold me two females to mate with my males said that even with the four guppies and a platy being in the tank, that the population would skyrocket. That the guppies would only eat so many of the fry. (She told me they'd take any that I had)

Hi initially there were about 30, now have around 16 plus 20 odd of the little newbies.
May have to ask my lfs if they will take some for me.

The more used to fry the adults get the more they see the fry not as food but as fellow fishies.

For instance my first ever brood of platies got reduced in numbers by 50% and spent all of their time hiding in plants/rocks/behind the filter. I removed them,grew them on in a small tank for a few weeks then reintroduced them. The adults left them completely alone (after a few minutes of chasing they realised they werent a food source,but were companions. So the second brood of platy fry and first 2 broods of guppy fry were pretty much ignored, so these fry swam at all levels in the tank from day 1 really.

So yes numbers will skyrocket shortly
