Hi, I have a 200 litre tank and use a Oase biomaster 250 mark2, which is for aquariums up to 250 litres, I do have a few fish, if I do need to increase flow, what would you add.
In my 70 litre tanks, my favourite filters are rated for 200 litre tanks. So I'd just double up on the same filter, if you like it. It isn't a brand I've used to comment on it, but flow rates are always calculated with no media inside.
Ouch. That's a pricey filter! No wonder a cheap guy like me has never used that brand!
I don't know what brands you can get at better prices (ideally, way better prices). But the expensive one should be filtering well, and you would be looking for water movement. I would explore the second hand, used market.
I have a spare fluval mini interior filter one sitting doing nothing, I read someone using it for the same purpose he removed the media material and just run it to add more flow, would this help.it is for a 45 litre tank about 10 gallons
An internal filter would work fine. Use it with just a sponge if you want to add more filtration to your tank. I have a filter powerhead attached to a plastic tube with holes in it and no filter media, just to move water around. Obviously, doing that won't be useful if you breed the fish since there is no protection around the inflow to stop fry from getting sucked up.
Would a wave maker be good and if yes with my 200 litre tank plus my oase filter, what size wavemaker would be good, maybe a daft question but I have no knowledge of wavemakers.
A wave maker would work as well, as for sizes I can't say as I've never used them. If you have a spare filter already, I'd use that. Saves spending money. Plus, if you do have some form of media inside it, you can use it as a backup for any future hospital/quarantine tanks.
This is the powerhead I made with the plastic tube
Thanks to everyone who helped, and put up with my daft questions, it's maybe an age thing, I thought there's no point of the Fluval 45 litre mini filter sitting in a cupboard so I've set it up, and I'm happy with it, I do have a hospital tank so it will be handy, I did fancy a wavemaker, but I've saved money with the wee filter.
