what is this white film on my mopani wood? It showed up the second day after I set up my tank. Is it harmful to my fish and shrimp? The wood is about 10 inches long, tank is a 10 gallon with 6 plants. This is a new tank but I am using a filter from my 55 gallon, so I have beneficial bacteria. Tank has 8 shrimp and 5 harlequin rasboras. Thanks for the help.

Oh, and I boiled the wood for 3 days, a couple of hours each day, before putting it in the tank. Not sure if that matters, but I'm not getting the tannins leeching out like some folks do.

Its a sort of fungus.  Completely harmless.  Sometimes the fish or inverts will eat it.  No need for concern.  It happened to me too.  Its normal.

So, it's been awhile and my wood still looks like crap and makes my tank look like crap. Can i take it out and scrub it with a scouring pad or something?

Yes, you can.

That's exactly what I do with my mopani driftwood. It comes off really easily with any type of scrubber.
