Ok i would like to add a 'moonbeam' to my 55g tank, just enough blue light for a small part of the tank, i reckon leds would do the job

the trouble is i cant seam to locate anything ..........any suggestions?

How big is the tank?
If you can get LED's i can get my dad to tell me how he managed to have his set up.

All you need is:
Enough white and blue LED's.
An actual light fitting that can take LED's.

He has his set up like:
Daytime-white LED's.
Nighttime-blue LED's.

It looks really good.

the tank is 39" long with standard hood that takes tubes. I am only running one tube at the moment which gives a nice level of daytime lighting.

i am only looking to create a pool of moonlight after lights out

Whenever you get that figured out id like to see a pic, of the tank in the dark with just the blue lights going on, sounds like a really neat effect.

yeah you can do that for cheap if you know what you are doing. Ebay LED's, some "telephone" wire or any audio wire, some resistors, a AC/DC converter. Universal converter will allow to to adjust the brightness of the LED's. With a much cheaper phone charger that has 800mA or greater output you can run the LED's at a fixed brightness, you will need more wire. On a 55gal though you should really use cold cathodes as LED's will not give you the light depth you need.

This is a standard all glass hood that has been completely modified to run awesome and cheap spiral compacts and LED's for a 2ft planted tank.

Camera does not pic up the blue very well, it is bright enough. These LED's are fixed and are kept dim enough to allow fish to sleep.

55gal with CC 2 12" tubes. These are on high. Fish can not sleep with them so bright.
