4 inches I have seen also. It's the biggest I've seen but I swear to god I'm not lying. If I ever see one of those again I am SO buying it, but both times I've seen those monsters have been large females in the same pet store when I've been away for days and in no position to buy new fish.
Swordtails which are in the same genus get much larger, I have seen a female at six inches.
4 inches, i've been keeping fish for a long time, if i had to choose i would say livebearers are my speciality and i have never seen a platy bigger than 3 inches, the biggest i've owned was maybe 2.5 inches, some pics of these monsters would be fantastic.
I was just giving Butch a hard time...trying to goad him into posting a pic. I don't doubt that they can grow that large. I've never seen it myself, but have heard of 4 inch Platies before.
Considering that a lot of Platies that you find have been interbred with Swords, and Swords DO get over 4 inches, it isn't all that unreasonable to think that a Platy might reach that size. Would LOVE to see it!
All cultavated platies and swords are crossed already it's just depending what body shape the breeder want, this is done by breeding the desired fish back with a platy or sword.
This is why u can get platy body shape but the size of swords but their far from common
Last tine i saw platies over 3" was at least 7-8 years ago
