that is one chunky platy i have just bought my GF a pair of wagtail platys at around an inch and half never thought id ever see a platy at 4 inch i have had one at 3 inch in my time

The giant ones were mostly likely home raised or home bred since majority of platies in pet stores were pretty young and come froms commerical stocks. In my case, this female red wag come from someone whos decided to take down their tank. Red wag's tankmates were spotted silver dollars, fullgrown albino clawed frogs and an angelfish.. Pet stores often take in old breeders of livebearers (mainly swordtails, guppies, mosquitofish, mollies and platies).

Wow - she's a stunner alright!

I have a whopping great variatus that must be about 3 inches long, I'll try and get a photo of her but she moves so darn fast I doubt that I'll be able to. But I would REALLY love to get my hands on a four incher.

Your platy has some sword in her alright. Not too much though. Just enough to get her to grow a little larger. But, she is still a large platy! Mu biggest platy atm is:

Bad pic, but SHE WONT STAY STILL. She is topping off at 2 to 2 1/2 inches. She probably wont get much bigger, she was raised in a coldwater tank, with really bad quality flake.
