I've recently had a whitespot invasion in my community tank. I've got it under control (and hopefully eliminated), but my young Molly is suffering from breathing problems. Her fins aren't clamped, but she lays with her belly on the substrate, not moving. She is continually gasping with flared gills. I have two air pumps, pumping loads of air into the tank. I have also moved her into a breeding trap at the surface of the water, but nothing seems to be helping. I also did a big water change after the disease.

Stats:
Temp: 24
Nitrite: 0.3 mg/l
Nitrate: 50 mg/l
pH: 8.0

You have a nitrite reading an immediate water change, just hope it pulls her round as she dosn't sound good.
What fish do you have in the tank.

Wilder to my rescue again! :)

Rekord 96l

Platy x 4
Endler's Livebearer x 3
Black Phantom Tetra x 2
Flame Tetra x 3
Peacock Goby x 2

The nitrite reading is from a Tetra liquid test kit. The colour I got matched the <0.3 mg/l reading and always has whenever I have tested. The Tetra guide claims that this is a safe reading. :/ I know the "<" means my nitrite is less than 0.3 mg/l, but I just assumed (due to the colour reaction) that it was nearer 0.3 mg/l.

I read that the symptoms shown resemble gill disease. Could this be a possibility?

It could be parasite to bacterial.
Need to get that nitrite reading to 0.
Any other fish gasping as if it was a parasite would of expected to see more fish heavy breathing like her.
Is she bloated up, darkened in colour.
I would issolate her she not going to make it sorry, she in a bad way.

Sorry for the lack of replies on my part, here.

Sadly, my molly died last night. :( In a sad way, it is a load off my mind as I could see she was beginning to suffer. I was on the verge of euthanasia, but I refrained just in case she made a recovery, which, I suppose, is quite a selfish view on the situation, really.

Anyway, thanks to Wilder and IceMan for the help!

Bless her R.I.P.
