My black molly didnt look that pregnant but found a baby fish in my tank and moved her. Now I'm up to 17 babies and dont know anything about mollies giving birth how long it last, what to do. The babies are not seperated cause I didnt know she was going to give birth. any advice?

Congrats! How big is she? If she has had about 33 fry then depending on her age and size she may not have anymore yet. I hope this helps.

She has now had 34 total its been about an hour and I havent seen anymore. I transfered her babies to my breeding net which also has 12 baby platies that I had last week. I still have her seperated because I read she can continue to have babies for a few days. I looked online and compared her size to the pictures of pregnant mollies and the mollies online were so much bigger. I will try to get a picture of her to put on here but I'm exhausted just watching this. I was happy to see it because I didnt get to see the platy birth and had never seen a live birth. Keep the posts coming! Thanks!

Once she stops dropping, it is unlikely that she will start again. If another hour goes by with no new fry, the chances are that she is done.

Thanks for all the great advice. Mama molly is now back in the tank. Her babies are in th breeding net with my baby platys I had last week. I now have two more platys that are quite pregnant and one I have seperated because I think shes about to give birth and day. QUESTION I know that the mollies store sperm. So six weeks from today will she deliver again?

In my case, my molly dropped fry at 6 weeks like clockwork. I run my tank cooler than some people with mollies which means mine would take a bit longer than average to drop fry. The development time from the time it starts, not necessarily the day of the last drop, is about 30 days for a typical pet shop molly. My own is well documented in my molly progress thread with a picture or two every few days but each of us have our own experiences and each molly female is a rule unto herself.

Thanks for all the great advice. I have now setup a second 10 gal tank just for the babies. The breeding net in my other ten gal takes up a lot of room so I figure with all these pregnant fish I better get something started for the fry. Will fry be okay in a tank by themselves and at what point do I move them to an adult tank?

the fry will be ok by themselves and u can keep them in there until u see that the fries r bigger than the biggest adult fishs mouth..hope this helps :good:

woke up this morning to do the transfer of fry to their own tank out of the breeding net notice I lost about 7 fry. Is this common for some fry not to survive or did I do something wrong?

It is common for some to die. I recently lost all my fry (23 of them) but some of that was my fault.
