Ok been looking where I could post a question about Molly Fry and water condition. My Molly had her fry yesterday and the water got very cloudy. I need to know if it will hurt the babies if a 25% water change is done. Please help. This is my first go around with Mollies. Also they seem to be eating what is on the side of the tank. I heard that they should be fed baby brine shrimp, however I didn't expect the birth until next week. I put in flake food and crumble it fine and the mom and dad seem to be starving all the time, but have not eaten any fry. I have read a lot but I guess not enough. Can some one give me some advice?
Also I found this site on Face Book but can't see where to post. I know I'm getting old but use FB all the time....help? Thank You

Do you have a breeding net?

Water changes are fine for fry, in fact, they need changes fairly frequently.  The key is that you want to be careful not to suck up the fry.

If you do have a breeding net, you can just place the fry in the net, and then feed them directly.  As for water changes there, the ammonia (which they are highly sensitive to) can build up in the nets, because the nets never have enough circulation, you can just pour tank water directly into the net from the tank.  You'll want to do this at least twice a day.  More would be better.

If you don't have a breeding net, you could use a small sandwich plastic container - float it in the top of the tank (not under the light!).  Then, twice a day, do a water change on the small container.

Adding a bit of moss or small fern (if you have any live plants) will be great for the fry.  Naturally, fry often feed off microfauna that lives on the leaves of aquatic plants.

Out of 20 I have about 13 left. They are  free swimming and now growing and eating crumbled food. I never used a net and like I said, wasn't expecting this for another week. I do have a 3 way breeder but didn't get momma in on time.  I have a lot of plants but they seem to like sucking on the side of the tank, some on the leaves. Now in about 3 weeks I should be looking at another blessed event. I really need to get the male out soon. My mistake was to get a pregnant female and a male. I don't recamend  this. Still learning.......
I know all to well about not sucking up fry as I have many Guppies. I just re stocked more plants in my Guppy tank as the flow of fry slowed down. I do a water change, 25-50% every Sunday on all my tanks. I did do 25% yesterday on the Mollies and they seemed to love it, so twice a week for awhile for them, then a bigger tank for the family.
Experiment success with the Mollys
Thanks
