I am new to fish but I do know the difference between male & female livebearers. I bought a female molly fish about 6-8 weeks ago because I have a primarily females in my tank & my other mollys were females. The fish store even agreed it was a female. About a week ago I was looking at her & noticed she has become a male. Is this possible?? The fish is definitely a male now. It is not a big deal but if someone can confirm this is possible & why does this happen? Thanks!

Can you post a picture please?

Mollies do not usually change gender, though it is reported in swordtails.

However, all livebearer fry look female until puberty. It is more likely that you have a late developer rather than a sex changer.

That is what I am thinking based on my reading. I will enclose pics.

Yes that definitely is a male. I suggest that @essjay is likely correct and he has just "grown up".

it is most definitely a late developer, there are many myths about livebearers changing sex
