Hi, I have 6 mollies males & females, the males always are trying to breed but i haven't noticed the females getting fatter in like 2 weeks. is there any kind of cause why this is happening i really want to know wants going on with them!

when will they start to go a bit fatter and how long will it take for them to drop the fry, ive heard they will breed every 30 or so days. Im new to breeding them but the only reason why i got fry was because the black molly i got was from the pet store and got pregenant there.

Can someone tell me a couple of expert secrets or hints & tips on breeding them more successfully.

There in a 30l aquarium with 4 plants, regular gravel, no filter cause i just change the water myself if it gets dirty. I know I know  i should be using one but im not at all lazy, heater and food to breed them (flakes, bloodworms and of coarse the algae that grows on the glass.

I also use a 18l aquarium for depoisting the fry in and putting the female into the breeding trap.

any other thing i should use to perk em up a bit for the cause of breeding.

THANKS

Do you at least have some sort of aeration in the tank?

The water in a tank like that will get "dirty" daily. What happens, even if the water looks perfect, is that fish put ammonia into the water constantly. Your 4 plants are helping a bit but the ammonia is a poison. With 6 adult mollies in a small tank like that, you are very heavily stocked and not having a biological filter is doing daily damage to the fish. It is time to move the mollies to your larger tank by using a tank divider or something similar until you can get a proper filter system on the 30 litre tank. Mollies need good water quality to thrive and reproduce and they are not going to have that in your system.

I agree with oldman. There are many cheap, easy ways to construct your own filter. I have created large powered sponge filters using nothing put sponge, a jar, lift tubes, and powerheads.

mollies need alot of space, minium tank size should be 20 gallons. that's what i've read. and they grow big! a 7 gallon tank is way to small

i assumed the 30 liter was for the purpose of birthing...much better than a breeder trap.
