Hey everyone,

Work on my 200gal mangrove swamp is well on it's way so I've been thinking about what I want to stock it with. I have 4 of what I think are T. Jaculatrix Archers that I currently have in a 40G that will be going into the new tank. I also plan to buy maybe 3 more to add to that shoal. The reason I say that I think they are T. Jaculatrix is because even though they look a lot like T. Microlepis they were starting to look pretty stressed out in low salinity water and seem to be doing much better in 1.010, anyway, that's a different story.

So I've been seeing a lot of what looks like T. Chatareus in the LFS and I've been thinking about trying to mix a small shoal of them into the new tank. I've been looking into the distribution of the 2 species and it seems that they probably live together in the wild. However, will they get along? Even street gangs live in the same cities.

My new tank is 84"x24"x24" so it has a decent amount of room. The front half of the tank will be pretty much just open swimming area decorated with 20 red mangrove saplings. The back half of the tank is a custom made 3D Background sculpted into mangrove root structures that should have a large amount of hiding areas(project is just getting started). I wonder if this will be enough territory?

All that being said, what are your opinions? Oh, and anyone else notice thier archers turning a dark color to match the shadows they're hiding in?

Thanks,
Dave

I had 1 chatareus with 3 jaculatrix a few years ago and the jaculatrix did appear to be slightly aggressive toward the chatareus which permamently showed stress bands, these were all bought from the same tank which i didnt realise contained mixed species. With a more even number of both species i cant see there being any major issues.
