Missing Tetra

i feel a little worried, one of my tetras is MIA, i did several water changes today as i had a power cut yesterday and my stats went nuts. anyway, he's missing and ive looked all around my tank, under rocks, in caves, behind the filter..........nowhere to be see, i think just maybe ive sucked the poor thing up the siphon, in the bucket and emptied it into the bath.

thing is, i always watch the end of the siphon when its in te tank, if a fish comes near it, i slow the water flow with my thumb.not sure how its happened but im a tetra down

Have you tried looking IN in filter?

Also check floor area as fish can jump during a water change. Best to always count fish after water change.
Do you have any pets.

no other pets, if he's in there he's doing a great job of hiding.lol

one of my neons did that, i was trying to fish him out (with water level dropped), and i heard a thud, looked at where the cat was looking, and low and behold a neon sat there gasping!

still alive today considering he got stuck to paper from jumping away from me!

try looking around the floor as mentioned before, in filter etc.

do you watch when you pour down the bath?

i found him 30 mins ago. hiding behind the filter twitching i moved him with the net into the main part of the tank and the worm that was on his side had gone inside him, only the worms tail showing. the other tetras kept swimming into him and knocking him around. he had no energy and could hardly swim.


i had to make a very tough choice and did the poor thing a favor. i used a knife, it was a clean cut and killed the brain too.

i felt terrible doing it, still do

i guess as the hobby progresses over th years, it will be somting that crops up from time to time
