I have a 10 gallon planted tank with four platies and four guppies. Yesterday I got home from work and noticed two of the guppies dead and one of the guppies missing. I have no clue what happened. It was so sudden and out of nowhere, my tank is cycled, they've all been eating, they seemed fine.

The only weird behaviour that I ever noticed was a few days before they died/went missing they would constantly swim against the filter current. My filter isn't very strong at all, and they never used to do that. But they would spend all day long right next to the filter current and swim against it. I looked it up and people said it was normal for guppies to do that, but now I'm not sure.

I have two main concerns now,

1) Where's the missing guppy? It is not in my tank whatsoever. I took out all decorations, caves, etc. Nothing. I searched the entire space around my tank, nothing. I'm assuming a guppy can't jump very far. My tank is right next to my bed and a few movie stands, I moved everything and couldn't find him anywhere. Is it possible that the other guppies/platties ate him?

2) I'm worried about my remaining 4 platies and 1 guppy now. If I look closely at them, it almost looks as if there's little air bubbles on them in patches. But I'm thinking it might be their skin/scales turning white. They almost look dried out and flakey maybe. It's not even like they're just losing colour, it almost looks like just certain scales here and there turn white, almost look like little water bubbles. Is this some sort of disease?

Do these whitened scales look like grains of salt? If so it could be Ich which is also known as white-spot and is very contagious. It would help if you could post a picture as it's not a good idea to throw chemicals in the tank without good cause.
Is there any reason to suspect stress? What is your maintenance regime? Has anything changed in the tank? What are your water parameters? When you say the tank was cycled how did you achieve this? Many LFS suggest letting the tank stand with water in for a few days is cycling and it ain't.
Sorry for all the questions but it may help to pinpoint what's happening in your tank.
