lots of information available out there, unfortunately a good percentage of it is wrong, a mistake, or misrepresented… yes, fish info, but something that just clicked to me…. today, was a news story that has been circulating for a couple days, about the collapse of a lift trailer “men fall 40 feet, when lift collapses”… it doesn’t take a scientist to see the video, they show on the news, and see one of the arms was flat, so the lift was half as high as it goes… the lift might go to 40 feet, but was only half extended… would no one be interested if the line was “men fall 20 feet in collapse”???

I find myself critiquing the news everyday, now… the trouble is misinformation keeps getting repeated over and over the internet

The news on a certain side does that all the time, has for years. Real unbiased or accurate journalism is dead.
I've been researching hard water fish, and for every site that claims a particular fish will flourish in hard water, there's another that claims it won't. I used to look to books for the answer and never questioned it, but I don't believe a single thing I see online.

Here I go again. When I did fish books, they were reviewed by an Ichthyologists who fact checked and criticized. When I published articles in the ancient magazines, I would sometimes have papers suggested to me that I'd read and often incorporate. Those educated, expert professional eyes on what I wrote were really appreciated, very useful, and no longer exist in fish writing outside of scientific circles.

I think we need to be skeptical. To be analytical. To seek our sources, question them and look for the truth in them. Cynical kills, skeptical educates.

With fish, you establish your credible sources. There are people on this forum I trust to deliver really good information. They've studied and learned, or are minds that are trying and working in spite of inexperience. There are people and groups online who have earned credibility and respect. Truth exists. If you accept it in blind faith, or if you reject it in blind cynicism, you're equally deceived.
