Mini Discus

Good advice there.I agree try and do some other research. :good: Also most people [well i do and the breeder who sold them to me stated this also] reccomend to have your tank running for atleast 4 weeks before adding any discus just to make sure all the levels are safe.

You probably know this, but incase the OP doesn't running a tank for 4 weeks achieves nothing. There needs to a source of ammonia for the cycle to happen in the first place, and for your filter to stay matured when leaving the tank empty for any length of time. Never ever attempt to cycle a tank with discus, you'll be making a very expensive mistake!
yup :good: So many people don't know how to cycle though.I think fs should give them out, it would probably stop so many deaths.

yeah i am going to wait about another month or so. i will probably gett the tetras and pleco along the next 2-3 weeks as i have had it running for about five days now

Do you have a source of ammonia?

so i have one big question which i dont really know has been answered
should i just try and find a pair or should i get 5 little small ones, then once a pair forms take the other three back?
and is it okay for them to be with, 1 candy striped pleco, 1 king tiger (king gypsy) pleco, 1 leopard frog pleco, and 5-6 black skirt tetras?
thanks so much :good:

No! Trust me it will not come to any good keeping plecos with juvy discus. Juvy's need excellent water condition. You will have to change the water atleast every other day and with plecos your going for multiple times per day! Try to start with a bare bottom tank as these are easier to clean

i knew you would know what to do  :good: what kind of tetras? thanks so much DiscusAngel
i couldnt thank you enough

erm in the 55g have congo tetras there great tankmates fo discus

here they are
Congo_Tetras.jpg

but in the 35g with 2 discus (breeding) have 5 Bleeding heart tetras.

here they are

my discus hated the congo as congos are very active and when it comes feeding time they stress the discus!

I think that you are being a little bit stubborn on fitting everything in a 35 gallon tank. Discus should not even be in a tank under 50g imo, but thats what I think. Try to have rams and a gaggle of tetras and no discus? And the plecos. The discus really limits your options in a small tank like that. I feel bad having my 3 juvenile angels in a 46 gallon.
Well said! Also, you should d oa lot of researching before purchasing Discus, they are a fish that needs top water quality and a very healthy diet!!

You can't keep any fish with a pair, it's just not done in the world of discus lol.

Rubbish lol. If you not interested in raising fry then you can keep tank mates with them. If you want cories then just make sure the species you choose will be ok with the high temps required as most cories need cooler water.

Thats a bit harsh on the discus  It would stress them out trying to care for their eggs with other fish. And honestly what is the point of buying a pair if your not going to raise fry, apart from the enjoyment of watching them care for their eggs.As for cories i have found them to be very adaptable, i am one for bending the rules and i keep albino cories which like cooler water with my discus at high temps.

i was thinking that as soon as my discus layed eggs, i would give the other fish in the tank to my brother who has a 32 gallon and wait for the fry to grow. so i cant keep just two discus?
