My first Microworm culture arrived in the post today.

I followed the suppliers instructions and its definitely alive so should be able to start feeding them to the 'Gupsters' in a few days.

I don't know why I left it so long to try this !

No point in putting a photo up, all you would see is a plastic container !

Always have them If you'd have said you wanted to start one I'd have sent a starter culture , use porridge on mine , just need a container with a lid put air holes in the lid , mix enough porridge just with warm water until you have about a 2 inch thick layer in the container , texture like plasticine it doesn't want to stick to your finger when you touch it , let it cool then spread the culture over it & leave at room temperature , depending on the room temperature you'll see the micro worms spreading and climbing the container wall within 3-7 days , collect mine with a cotton bud just wipe it around the container wall and shake it in the tank . It does smell really smell when you take the container lid off , when the porridge starts going just start another culture off ( don't put it next to a radiator it'll get to hot for them ) .

Thank you for the advice, I'll be in touch if it goes off.

   To Cultur Micro worms

All you need is a small plastic container such as a butter or margarine tub. Mix some Readybrek with milk or water to create a paste, when mixing water the micro worms will smell really bad and can go off quite quickly, with milk the micro worms will stop smelling as bad and last a bit longer, once mixed add a teaspoon of micro worms from an old culture and puncture air holes into the lid then put on the tub. The warmer the micro worms are kept, the faster they will multiply and will soon start to climb up the walls of the tub, the best way to remove them is to use a mini artist brush and them feed to the fish. These worms can be fed to all fish but are more suitable for the small and new born fry because it helps them to develop and grow better.

Try my next one with milk !! always used water never even thought of using milk ( very cheap way of getting live food )

I been feeding my fish micro worms/ livefoods for over 20 years and have learned many different  ways to Culture and collect live foods. it’s cheap easy to keep and is more natural then prepared foods. This is what I feed my fish

white worms, grindal worms, micro worms, Vinegar eels, brine shrimp, Fruit flys, earthworms,  cyclops Daphnia, blood worms, glass worms, mosquito larvae,
I always have live foods available for my fish.

Which live food would you recommend for mature Guppies that can be easily cultivated ?

I have a constant supply of Daphnia, Bloodworm, Mosquito Larva ect from my wildlife pond in the warmer months and use frozen food this time of year.

Thanks very much, I did a quick search on them and have suitable containers and compost.

I will pm you my address.

Which method do you use to keep 'em ?

Grindall Worm:

Grindall worm is a suitable food for fish of all sizes. I find the best way to culture grindall worms is to use a large plastic container, the ones I use measure 13 inches long by 9 inches wide and 6 inches high, in this I put a layer of 2 inches of moist (not too wet) Irish moss peat. Worms are then fed with Readybrek, just sprinkle a small amount on the surface. To harvest the worms just place a clear piece of plas-tic on top of the readybrek, after about a day or 2 the worms will start to gather un-derneath and around it, the piece of plastic can be removed and placed slowly into the tank water and worms will slowly fall off.

I have a container with potting compost set up for 'em.

I nuked the compost in the Microwave to kill off any bugs !

All set to go.

Oh, and I got some Ready Brek in.

They're here... alive and wriggling !

Many thanks fish48.

tanks pete , I bet you didn't find any dead worms lol.
you will find them to be a very good food for your Guppy's

Well I've been feeding  Microworms to the Gupsters for several days now and have started a couple of fresh cultures at weekly intervals to have a regular supply.
It's so easy and convenient I recommend any members who haven't cultured them to give it a go.

Fish48... the Grindalworms are multiplying well and I reckon I can start feeding them to the mature Guppies in a week or so !
