Methylene Blue

It will remove the filter bacteria and stain literaly everyting in the tank IME. This med will force you into a full fish-in cycle if you use it in an established tank. Methaline Blue will not break down nitrite, but it will prevent it forming by stopping any ammonia/ammonium in the tank from converting into nitrite via the filter bacteria.

Why do you want to use this product? This is a dangerous medication and there is almost always an alternative

All the best

i have had a nitrite spike and have been doing water changes for the past week with so success clean majority of the tank i have just read about the seachem prime and this seems to be a good help

does this stuff break down nitrite as i have heard so?

thanks foley

sorry, are you wanting to use meth blue to break down nitrite?
meth blue is a treatment for fungal infections and protozoan infections like whitespot and can be used as a dip for fish that have been exposed to ammonia or nitrite but I think thats all,

yea i have just read it clears nitrite at a higher dose and also doubles as a dechlorinator at the same time i have found a website that sells 325ml for £4

If you are wanting something to temorarily deal with your nitrIte spike, surely it would be better to use something that is 'designed' for dealing with nitrIte spikes?

It's also used (sparingly) to prevent the spread of fungus on eggs. I've never found it to be particularly effective though. Simply providing good water circulation over them is a better way to go.

i just heard that it breaks down nitrite but i have looked at seachem prime and this breaks it down and it also a dechlorinator as jimbo said its a life saver so must be alf decent

If your looking for a dechlorinator that removes nitrite and ammonia then have a look at Sera Toxivec

Buy it! Then you have a second line of defence at water changes. I double bottle dose Prime just to be on the safe side. I advise you to get hold of a 5ml syringe to dose it as you don't need much at all, even at double dose.

If you use any product to remove ammonia or nitrite you are going to be interfering with the beneficial bacteria in the tank. If they don't have the food they need, they will die.

The consequences of letting this happen will be far worse than doing a few water changes to control a nitrite spike.

i have a 1ml pippette just use that and i think i may get some of this stuff tomorrow
