Meds And Water Change

Can someone please tell me if you are dosing your tank with meds and need to do daily waterchanges for water quality do you add the meds again every time you do a water change?

Hi Gilli,

Yes you do have to add meds back in.

If you have medicated and then carry out a 50% change for example, the meds will then only be at half strength.

If you had added say 10ml of medication, and then changed 50% of the water, I would recommend adding 5ml of medication to the fresh water to keep the concentration of the medication as it should be, otherwise you may find that the meds won't work.

It depends on the medication, the half life differs. Most antibiotics should be redosed full strength daily if you do a 50% water change daily, but this does not apply to all.
