I know a lot of people don't like to use too many medications/treatments in their aquarium but I just wondered if anyone has had any success stories with any or if anyone's got any recommendations?

I have just added a TetraTec EX1200 to my 150 Litre tank but was wondering if there's any treatments out there that would benefit the tank while it goes through another cycle or just any treatments in general that people have used and would recommend.

I am only using 2 at the minute which are Seachem Prime as a dechlorinator and I've also added some Evolution Aqua Pure Balls to the filter and aquarium.

Cheers!

To be fair if you want to use those products its pot luck as to which will work - I really dont believe in them. At one point early on I was convinced that the tablet ones called Bactozyme worked well but it just does not add up.

If I am reading your post right I would say that you have added a new filter to a tank with an exisiting filter? If you want to make sure they are quite evenly matched I would move some media over from your existing filter so the bio load is spread over the tank. So long as the media is in an environment that it can thrive it does not matter where it is really so long as its getting the flow through properly and the perfect way in a tank is a filter.

When adding a second filter though it does take a while if you let it plug and play it will take at least 6 weeks but it could take longer because filter 1 already has a strong colony in and is dealing with the bioload. It will build up over time though.

I was thinking about trying Seachem Paraguard and Seachem Fresh Trace but not sure if they're any good or not or if there's any out there that other people use. Also I've took my old filters out because they just couldn't cope with the waste but I'm going to add them to my new filter in the next day or so hopefully

Wait! Did you take the sponges and media out of the old filters and put them in the new one? Because thats the really important part here - if you have started with clean sponges etc then you have basically started with a new tank and are back into a fish in cycle situation....

The filter was used but I was told not to clean any of the media cos it would kill the bacteria but I just got water out of my current setup and then added it to a bucket set the filter up and then left it to run in the bucket for a while then used some more water out of the tank in a bucket to do the same again and then I added it to my aquarium
