I tried searching for information on this and even google came up with nothing.

Is if its safe to use medical oxygen tubing, (the kind used with home oxygen machines.) instead of the expensive air pump tubing sold at LFS? It looks like it would be the same diameter, (don't have any actual aquarium tubing to compare.) My mother was on oxygen for a few months last year and she has hundreds of feet of it still new in the package.

(Edited: because apparently I can't spell tonight. ;) )

I know which tubing you mean, my father had this when he was on oxygen though I never used it on any of my fish tanks. I am not sure if the plastic is the same though so it may leach undesirable chemicals into the water, I have found airline tubing specifically for aquariums to be relatively cheap online so this is where I purchase mine from, just had a search around the internet for an answer and it appears the tubing commonly used in medical products is PVC which is safe for aquatic use.

Thanks for looking, :) I didn't think to search for what it was made of. (Just getting back into setting up an aquarium after 10 years away, and have been doing so much research to update and refresh my memory on keeping an aquarium going that I think my brains are researched out. lol) The tubing my mom has is still in the package, hopefully it'll say what its made of or have a brand label I can use to look it up, hopefully its the PVC.

I know tubing isn't that expensive, but I was given a free 55 gallon tank that only came with a few things, so I'm basically starting from scratch in trying to get it up an going and I only have so much in my budget. So if I can save a few dollars by using free tubing I already have, then that's money I can put towards getting a better heater or air pump. ;)
