Total over kill, I buy 25g at a time, the Metroplex comes in s 5g tube. Unless you have a large fishroom with a huge problem 100g will expire before you use even half of it.
What size is the tank?
I can't exactly remember but one and a half(or even double for extreme case) the recommended dose with every day partial water change and full dose for the tank a day. From what I can remember the metronidazole doesn't last too much in the water, something like 8-10 hours.
It's a bit of a hassle with metro, that's why I recommended the other tablets. I've used the powdered metronidazole not tablets though if it makes a difference
And like that for at least 5 days till no white poop on any of the fish.
I have the apistos in a 10g, I want to treat my 75g since the apistos died there. The water changes aren't an issue. I went through a fish-in cycle with a 46g and that was two 90% changes a day for 3 1/2 weeks. I carry good bucket.
The topmost product is a powder, so I can attempt to give it with food in the 75g since no one there has died, the cories are a little pale and less active then I would like.
Ignore their recommended dose, 40mg per gallon. A 1/4 measuring teaspoon is about 400mg, this in a 10 gallon tank works out well.
Snazy is correct with the half life, very short for this med, you could do a 50% water change & redose twice daily if you like, I've done this on the weekends, during the work week it doesn't time out very evenly for me.
Too bad it's the weekend, no shipping until Monday. I really appreciate the help. {I'll keep saying it} I can treat the 10g twice without a blink And I can try to get it into the food for the cories somehow.
How do you handle water changing when you have done the food? Still everyday 25%?
You really only need to do the water changes like that if you use the med in the water. The best way I've found to get it into the food is to thaw some frozen brine shrimp on a paper towel, this helps dry it out a bit. Sprinkle on a bit of metro, make it look like a sort of tiny briny powdered doughnut. Mix this in & feed once daily for a few days.
If they are eating you don't need to dose the water at all, for the ones that aren't eating, once they begin to mouth the medicated food & spit it out they are on the way to recovery, as this is getting a bit of the medication to where it will do the most good; the digestive tract.
I think I can confirm Hexamita. I have just lost an albino cory. It had a lesion in its head, and it's fins were ragged. They are obviously still weak the ick medications, and the newest platy had been bought and housed with the apistos for a few days. I can't find anything on whether anyone has had a platy with hexamita, but she did have white stringy poop the first 2 days after I bought her.
I had called my lfs and asked after noticing, they told me it was from the diuretic the fish are given for shipping. I am finding this situation ridiculous now.
I knew there were still issues in the 46g but I couldn't find a cause or definite symptom. I have just seen a platy flashing and then the cory that died... I ordered the medication but it won't even ship until today.
I am frustrated that everything I find when researching says that it is a water quality problem. There's nothing I can do better in that aspect.
Scratch that I guess. I just called the Fish Pharmeceuticals and they didn't think it is hexamita. They changed my order to Paracide-X and Parinox, I am assuming to use together.
My gut feelings are fighting this, but I have no experience, where they have plenty. The symptoms fit with hexamita like a glove. I guess we will find out in a few weeks. I can always order the metronidazole if these don't work. But I probably won't have any fish to treat if that's the case. It's not as if this is killing them slowly. They are dropping like flies all over the place, and I am seeing flashing and erratic swimming from the cories, fry, and platys.
I don't think you mentioned these in your opening post but ragged fin, lesions, etc are not signs of hexamita. The cory seems to have had something else.

If they don't think it's hexamita why have they given you meds for hexamita? These are just parasitic medications tht treat a broader range of parasites inclusive of hexamita. It seems they had no idea what you fish have either.
I didn't see the symptoms on that cory when I start this thread. At that point the cories were just swimming a little wild, and the platys were flashing. The one who died yesterday was the only one with ragged fins and lesions, but now today another has red streaks and its fin has a ragged spot. Whatever this is, is affecting them fast.
I am 100% sure that yesterday only one of the 7 cories had ragged fins, and it was the one that died. SO Overnight anothe one is affected. What the hell is this.
The apistos did NOT have lesions or red streaking. How can I have issues like this in two different tanks? Water is still testing right. I did a HUGE water change on the tank with the cories, so when the medications arrives I can treat the tank.
I don't think they knew either, but hopefully these medications will work. I am so frustrated. There's nothing I can do right now but sit here watching them suffering.
My medications came today. It was Praziquantel powdewr, and the paracide-x. I am a little confused after searching the Praziquantel. Is it effective against ich?
I think I got rid of the ich. Just wondering.
Should I turn the heat up everywhere during this week of treatment?
The apisto has not been eating for a few days now as well, and I am not sure how to treat using the Paracide-x. On the label it only refers to putting it in the food.
I feel like I should have ordered the metro because I knew what to do. Now I have this stuff and nothing I search is helping me with the answers. I want so badly to try and save this apisto.
