This is a sad state of affairs...... I have 40 tanks, of which only 27 were actively occupied until tonight that I've moved all fish to another stand and can now switch off one more stand with 12 tanks in it, meaning that I am downscaling to only 15 active tanks.....

Where I live, there are 2 Pet shops of which the one has now quit keeping fish completely, (specialising in birds) and the other has 7 tanks all occupied by fish I supplied.... This really put a damper on my enthusiasm....

The nearest "worthwhile" pet stores from me is in Johannesburg/Pretoria, which is 300km away, which means a return trip of 600km just to get ahold of decent breeding stocks..... I am so depressed as fish have been part of me since 1970.

Everybody talks about the lfs' are they a franchise group.... (cause i've never heard of 'em) Maybe I can negotiate to start the first establisment down here.....

maybe you can!! That'd be awesome!!!

Some fish stores are local and some are franchise. Petsmart, Petco are US franchise. Pets at home is a UK franchise, i believe.

LFS is just an abbreviation for Local Fish Store mate. UK and American folks are all about abbreviation, and LFS is one that causes a fair bit of confusion.

I may just add, there was a time in my life when I had almost 300 tanks........

you gotta fight the man!

make your own fish store, get your pet licsence for selling( do you even need one?)
order your tanks, make labels, and get a hell load of guppies, start with 100 guppies 30 make 70 female, by the end of the year you'll have over a thousand lol!

sell them off, make money, and inspire more fish stores around you becuase poeple will see that people will buy fish, and then you can look after your fish while showing them off, making a quick buck, and helping yourself!

How much demand for fish is there in the backside of beyond? Hey, I could be wrong - and no questions its a pity. But if theres not a decent fish shop nearby its probably because theres little demand for it.

Ludwig - surely theres a SA mail order/internet fish shop that can deliver to you?

you should open your own independant fish shop, and then order in your own fish stocks to a local Airport from Malaysia etc :)
