My betta appears to have guarded and eaten nearly all of the frozen bloodworm I put in the tank tonight. When I came back to the tank and saw he was guarding the remnants of the food from the other fish, the damage was done - he is HUGE. I suctioned up what I could of what was left but now he's so bloated he can hardly swim.

I guess the block must have sunk pretty much right away instead of half thawing and then sinking because he was sitting there with a decent pile of bloodworm in front of him.

This all happened about 30 minutes ago - is there anything I can do? I've heard horror stories about bettas overeating and dying

fast him for a couple of days and if he is still bloated, try feeding him a pea. then get the vaccuum ready for all the poo!!

Eeee, thanks, you don't think it was his last meal do ya? :/ He managed to hoist his fat *** to the top for a breath a minute ago but then he went back down to the bottom again - he is absolutely stuffed!

he should be okay. you may want to get a second tank so you can isolate him during bloodworm time so he doesnt make a habit out of it

Well I was just thinking about that. I'm just going to thaw the bloodworm in some tank water before I put it in from here on out, that way it scatters and he can't steal it all. It's more messy but the corys will clean up whatever sits on the bottom.
