hi guys.

im new to this site by the way it's great. my problem is this i am in the process of setting up my 3rd tank, the other 2 have been fantastic cycled fine and lost very few fish water quality great crystal clear water the lot.
i followed the same procedure as with the others but after 10 weeks with fish at a low stocking density i have suffered a massive green algi bloom it's so bad that i cant see fish for the green cloudy water and algi is coating every surface which when cleaned comes back within 1 or 2 days got 2 filters running and they not making any differance, doing weekly water changes and keeping lamps off for most of the time.

please can anyone help.

roj xx

Sounds like a serious green-water case, so I'd probably take this question over to the Planted Tank forum/section roj. Good luck!

Ammonia is often the main cause green water. There may have been an ammonia spike that isn't detected with test kits. Other causes are an imbalance of nutrients and/or low CO2 levels.
Large water changes do not always help, unless you are removing 50-70% each day. If there is an imbalance in nutrients then fixing it will sometimes make it go away by itself after a while. A three day blackout followed by a large water change is the most common method of getting rid of it. A UV steriliserr or diatom filter will clear it up very quickly but it is is costly so better to try another method first

wow, aaron has like.. radar! roj looks to be a beginner so you may need to elaborate on those steps.. depending on roj's response I guess...

I always check tropical discussion and new to the hobby for any plant related questions, there is the same amount of questions in these two sections as there is in the planted section!
