Well, we recently spotted this chap crammed into a 2-foot tank in an lfs. Poor little darling. He was only £27.

We mentioned him to paul v biker, but he wasn't able to take him, so we decided to have him for ourselves.

Now, at the moment he is (believe it or not) in with Martha. Whether this is a good idea in the long term remains to be seen, but we do have a backup tank should trouble occur.

Needless to say, Martha seems rather tolerant. On with the pics.

He's a very handsome chappie at 13 inches long:

Here's the ernormous pipe we bought for him:

And it seems he like to play piggyback - with Martha!:

I'm loving his personality so far. He's extremely curious and friendly. Martha's just been sitting looking bewildered all afternoon. :D

Nice ornate bichir!!

Lets hope Martha doesnt decide to cut him in half for invading her tank :/ luckily ornates are pretty much strictly nocturnal and about the laziest of all bichirs so there shouldnt be many daylight meetings between the two.

 wow How big of a tank is that?(Or do you need for bichirs?) I would love one of those fellas. I love the pic with Martha. She looks quite perplexed. Shes like "wtf?" he he.
Good luck with him. :D

Gotta love Bichirs!! I got a Senegal a month or so ago, and he is fast becoming one of my favourites. full of personality and constantly active. Greedy git though!!
That Ornate is a beauty, Hope he gets on well with Martha!!

Martha looks like she is screaming out in surprise in the last picture, and the birchir is going "GOT YOU!!!" lol...

Very beautiful colouring he has aswell..

They're in a 60 gallon at the moment. We will be upgrading to at least double that for Martha just after Xmas, but will probably leave Julian where he is now.

The million dollar question indeed. It's impossible to tell with puffers. For a Fahaka, she is amazingly tolerant of all the other fish in the tank. She has nipped Stewart, but he does have a tendency to wiggle around in her face constantly.

It worries me a little that Julian seems to like swimming around her and rubbing her. I did notice this morning that she's had a go at his caudal fin. So far today he's stayed away from her - hopefully one bite is enough for him to learn it's not a good idea to get in her face all the time.

I'll be monitoring the situation very closely. Any more nips and he'll be relocated.
