Marine Tank Picture Diary

Looking good, Sounds like you know what you are doing, just don't underestimate anything! SW Tanks are delicate biomes.

Nice crab :D

Ben

Sounds like he already has cycled water from the lfs... -_-
The fish are from the same LFS as the water, and have been housed in it for some time.

Can you take a full pic of the tank with all the corals in it?

Looks really good

The water will help Auratus, but I'm still expecting a little trouble in a few weeks. I have a reserve tank on standby just in case :)

There's only one coral at the moment, but I'll take some more shots and post them :)

I forgot to mention, the fish are babies, the clown is no bigger than 3/4 of an inch :)

Looks good so far :p

I wouldnt get anymore fish for now. You dont wanna overstock the bioload on a new tank.

I made the same mistake as you my friend.
Its really annoying looking at a bare tank, but sometimes this is good to just leave it.
It both our cases i rushed to get fish an coral. I had a huge torch coral with about 20 branches, now i am left with 3.
Theres a ton of people that have WAY more experience over you, and they will tell you to let it cycle, not only is it a waste of money (since they probably will die) its kinda cruel man.

But its all looking good mate! Keep watching the water parimeters. I personally would add some more LR.

Agreed, you seen to have lots of base ocean rock, which is largly pointless (apart from being cheap). You should replace some of it with Live Rock for better filtration.

Keep the pics coming though!

Ben

There's around 13 kilos in there at the moment. I will be adding some more very soon.
The abse rock is seedable, which was the general idea

To seed? Yes it can. That's a long term aim.

As I mentioned up there ^^ I am EXPECTING a Nitrate spike in a couple of weeks. If it gets too bad, I will be moving the fish to another tank which I have prepared.

I appreciate comments, but surely people can be trusted not to slaughter all their fish by making stupid mistakes?

I know there are people around with more experience than me, but I do have around 10 years of experience with tropical tanks and cycling. I'm taking advice from other saltwater tank owners, and my LFS owner, who has owned reef tanks for many years.

I'm ready for the worst. I'm quite sure that with the precautions I've taken, my livestock will be fine. As I've said, I have a reserve tank ready to use in emergencies

One question...has your reserved tank been cycled? If no, then your up for double the worse!

I've been keeping fish for over 18 years now, and my dad has been keeping fish all our lives...we made the same error at the start. Doesnt mean if you got so many exp. means its the same with marine tanks. Totally different!

Its a good idea to take advice from fellow marine aquarists. Without these advice, your tank is likely to crash in the future. And there goes all your hard work and effort. These days I take advise from fellow aquarist. Because the marine hobby is very expensive!

Take care

All I'm going to say on this is that the tank and the fish LOOK great!
I can understand all the stress of cycling and trying to do the best for livestock but people need to just chill out a little bit otherwise this could turn a bit mean and nasty and I don't believe this is what this site is about.
Friendly advice great, excellent, wonderful and although it is easy to be defensive against one another....lets try and stay calm, peaceful and just chill out a bit. Fish are so peaceful (most of the time) and they should help to chill us out too. Everyone sit back and realise what this is all about and "just keep swimming, don't stop swimming"!!!
Good luck and please keep us up to date as to what is going on with your tnak.
