Firstly I would just like to say hello and wow what a busy forum.

I am a complete novice with regards fish, I have only looked after two gold fish in the past and now have decided to take a step and look at possibly setting up my own marine tank.

I have just bought a 370 litre tank (Rena Aqualife Corner 120) and I am eventually want to look at setting up a marine tank. I appreciate that there is a lot for me to learn and want to do it right, even if it means I have a considerable wait until even have any fish. I have been reading up and continue to read more and more on different set ups and ways that a successful enviroment can be achieved.

There are probably some people reading this and thinking "what an idiot" and can appreciate why, however please take the time to reply and even throw some thought provoking questions and curve balls as like I said I DO WANT TO DO IT RIGHT!

Hi 7 and welcome to TFF!

TFF is divided into a number of topic forums and there are a set of salt water forums. You'll want to post down in the "Marine and Reef Chit Chat" (I think that's it) to maximize your chance of being noticed by some experienced marine members. That's not to say the experts don't roam all over the forums, because it seems they do sometimes. I'm doing simpler freshwater myself but these forums as a whole are a wonderful way to learn and try to gain some skill prior to actually getting in fish.

Hi

Thanks for the reply and will post similar down there, but did not want to break the etiquette of posting. I think any research is always wise, no matter what you are trying to achieve can make a huge difference to being successful. Although I am a complete newbie I am also very aware that experience is invaluable and I think thats what seems to shine through these forums.

I always remember the story of the plumber who fixed the boiler with one swing of a hammer and charging £500 ($1000). The customer asked for the bill to be justified and the plumber said that it was £20 for the tap of the hammer, and £480 for the years of experience on knowing where to tap :)

All the best
Paul

If you want good marine advice it's best to post down the bottom of the board. I am fairly rare in the SW keepers in that I still pop up the top every so often.

Most replies you will get from the top section will be "SW costs too much/is too difficult for me" when in reality, with a bit of research, it is easy and not that much more expensive (the cost of salt aside).
