Hi guys,

Firstly apols if I've posted this in the wrong section of the forum.

I'm not new to fish keeping at all but am currently encountering an issue which I've never experienced before - an uneven floor.

Long story short, I've purchased by young brother a tank and stand - the Marina 95 model.
I'm about to set it up for him but am having a nightmare trying to get the tank level.
The tank will be on laminate flooring and the base of the stand is entirely flat (no legs), any ideas on how I can SAFELY level the stand with the floor?
Or will the tank when filled with water level itself out?

The last thing I really want to do is continue *hoping* it will level out, get it all setup and filled to find out the water level is uneven.

Any help you can give will be gratefully appreciated.

How far out of true is the tank now?

Certainly does :)

That's not too bad, not enough to affect the running or integrity of the tank as least!

I think what you want is a 'shim'; a small piece of wood put under the base of the stand. A triangular bit would be best, but a flat piece can be used.

Just another suggestion, measure the depth of the base of your stand and then go to your local timber yard. Ask them for two lengths of wood, one measuring (depth of stand)L x 50W x 5D (mm). The other measuring (depth of tank)L x 50W x 2.5D. Place the 5mm deep piece under the end of the stand and the 2.5mm deep in the middle. That way you'll have some support in the middle of the stand as well.

Hi peeps,

Many thanks for the replies and suggestions.
I've been measuring using a spirit level... Well I've set the tank up and filled with water and there is a slight slant in water levels. I'm really dubious about leaving it like this even though the slant from the back to the front of the tank is literally less than a qtr of a cm. For that reason I am going to try the ideas you have all mentioned.

Also, I've googled and searched this forum about the whole polystyrene debate. This tank itself sits in a plastic frame/base. Would placing polystrene between the tank and the stand help in any way with the uneven-ness?

I could curse myself for buying my bro this. Should've settled for brine shrimp ;)
