is this the same as Ctenolucius hujeta? if so they tend not to get very big in aquarium conditions . 12 inch is a decent size.

As far as i know marbled gars will be the hujeta so 12 inch is a decent size in aquariums

Marbled gar, aka false gar....latin name-Boulengerella maculata.....They get to about a foot long,...stunning things IMO

sometimes wish shops would use proper names so people know what it is they're buying and can research properly
