I'm thinking of starting a mudskipper tank and want to have mangrove trees and roots. My question is are all mangrove trees that you can buy say on e-bay are the same or do they have different ones. What I mean is I don't want to have trees that are going to grow like tree outside I want small minuture trees but live ones. Also with the the roots can you buy roots that are dead but use to be alive. Also if anyone has or have had mudskippers how did you set up your tanks, like would mangrove trees and roots be enough or would I also need like a a section with sand land for them to get out of the water. With the roots they will be able to get on them but will this be enough or should I have land also. My tank is a 30 gallon long. Thanks for the replies!

Mangroves require strong lighting and the bulk of the plant remains out of the water.
There are different varieties of mangroves that come from areas with varying salinities,
although most will adapt to most conditions as long as there is enough salt.

Mangroves are obviously trees, so to keep them from growing too large you must prune
them regulary and try to restrict root growth. Mangroves do better manly in sand then in the
water when in aquariums.

Mudskippers will need quite a large retreat and mangrove roots will not be sufficent, instead create
a sloped sandy beach area at half of the tank in which the Mudskippers can take refuge. You should be
able to keep 3-4 mudskippers but this depends on the species.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Thanks Mike the slopped beach idea was what I was orginally going to do but I thought the mangrove trees would look nice. But it seems to be more trouble then its worth. So I think I will go with the slopped beach like you suggested. Thanks againg for your help. by the way have you ever had mudskippers or do you know were some pic's are that I can see to get some good ideas exatlly how to set it up. Thanks

This website has a few links, but they might not be that helpful.
Mudskipper Links

I have never actually kept Mudskippers but am planning to soon and I've just started
getting the tank ready.
