as it was only £2.75 and was in a tank of girls, being bullied.

Looks like a female to me but ive heard that some males can look like that, ill try to find the post on here and compare the two.

Sure looks like a hen pecked PK male juvie to me. I say this because the color is so endemic to PK. But I am notoriously wrong. Any hint of an ovipositor?

No Sue no white dot. The story from the lfs is that she was bought put in a community tank and bullied the others. I have 2 other he/she fish and they are really tiny. This one is big and is a real character, it does look sort of old to me though.

if no ovipositor I would say male. And the fact that the betta was "bullying" the females is another sign. Good Looking betta, I wish I could find a male PK with females but I never come across one.

The funny thing is that I bought him/her as I stood and watched the tank of girls for about 10 minutes, and she/he was being chased by the females in there, kept taking refuge behind the filter. ! have now bought 3 females and I am certain 2 are male pks. (he/she had been returned to shop as it was too bossy)

If I understood liz right, the potential pk was returned to the shop for being bossy in someone else's tank-- a community tank--before Liz got it. When it was returned, it was put in a tank full of ladies who were chasing the fellow/gal around.

Like I said, I think it looks like a PK male. (I take back the juvie offer. Perhaps he is older and just can't keep up with a tank full of teenage girlies. Girls have been known to beat up fellows that can't or won't get it up.) Very traditional colors for pk I think--at least I see lots of them and they are similar to wilds.

But I am no authority that is for sure. Glad you like him. He has led a dramatic life. Should have some personality to go with it.

Umm, the pic doesn't show, does he/she have long ventrals? Sometimes they do get nipped off, though.

That is one forlorn Betta :(

Mum, the bubbles wont stick together!

Much happier today, flared at me this morning, and ate a flake..think he will be ok in a day or two. Lovely colours got a smudge on his tail so that is what his name is Smudge.

Well, Smudge needs a name, because he/she is a cross dresser. Those ventrals are definately made to fool the observer. We need to continue to observe Smudge. By the way, any beard?

My lovely new bubble builder, God of Fire, can't keep his bubbles together in an unfiltered tank. But the fighter, God of War, has now built a bubble nest at least an inch high. :hyper:

There is no doubt about their genders.
