Male Of Female?

Hi guys, i will be getting a Betta soon (maybe even tonight) and wanted to know which is best, is it a male or female?

Depends what you are after, how big is your tank, do you have any other fish in there?

Tank size is 17 liters and i might put some shrimp in it.

Shrimp and betta are not always a good mix.

I'd be tempted to say male as they generally (plakat excluded) have longer fins and are "prettier". The females are nice too but if you are only having the one fish then I'd suggest a male, purely has he has more showy fins. However you may walk in the shop and see the perfect female...

17ltr I would say a male, 2 amano shrimp would be ok but you'd need real plants in there, some moss balls and 2 hiding places.
