As i sit watching my fish, i've noticed that my male guppy swims almost hovering very close to the glass. When i look into my tank from different angles, i can see a mirror effect coming from the other sides. Is he swimming so close because he can see his relection and think hes got a friend?? If that is the case, i better get down the shop to get him some friends

Fish can see out of the tank but yes, he'd like some friends. I'd recommend 3-4 other male guppies if you have the tank space for him.

ive got the fluval edge tank, 23litres.. how many would you suggest?

We see it mirrored because of the angle of the glass and the reflection of the water. Looking straight out at us is no different than us looking straight in at them. However, as the other poster said, a single guppy would probably like a little company. =)

With only 23 litres to work with, I would allow as many as 8 guppies if you have nothing else in the tank. If you have other fish, most of us do, you need to take those other fish into consideration.

5 neons and a guppy in a small tank like that is starting to be fairly full. The guppy might enjoy some company but he really doesn't need it.
