yesterday i bought a male guppy for my 28gallon tank, he settled in well and noone showed any interest in him

until overnight, this morning his tail was shredded really badly and he was just sitting on the floor of the aquarium, i swiftly moved him the a breeding trap and he still doesnt want to move aound...

what could have done this [in my sig] as i have never had problems before with any fish not the long finned danios or the female betta....or could it even be something else like finrot or something, though i doubt it could set in that fast!

ps my water stats are perfect ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5 ph 6.2 ish

hes goign to have to go back if he keeps getting bullied

=[

is he a fancy guppy? if yes, the female betta may have been the culprit. On a side note, your ph is rather low for guppies. around 7 would do.

yeah he was, but he died....must have been stressed or something

I cat get the ph up an i dont know how....

oh crap i feel bad =[

Sorry for that. YOu can go to your lfs and they have ph meds that help with getting it at where it should be.

The pH is a little low for any of the common livebearers. In water like that, you should be keeping things like tetras and similar fish. It is always better to make the fish match the water than the other way around.

in my opinion the pH never has any great implications, although yes you would be better with tetras etc.

also, you should get another female guppy for bonnie. Not only will she feel happier for having her own kind as company, it may trigger her to give birth :)

Could have been the neons as well. They can sometimes be quite nippy.
