This is a 5 gallon tank with 3 platies (1m2f) and 2 male guppies. It isn't a surprise when I see the guppies try to chase female platies and mate with them. I think this cross breeding won't work out anyway. It is the guppies trying to mate the male platy that really blows my mind. It is so funny that they don't know a fish of that size could actually be a male. Lol~

Huh that's a good question.... Hmm. Well I have seen my male platies *act* as if they are trying to mate but I know they aren't b/c they have females so, maybe this 'mating' is just competitive or playful behavior in your male fish. Honestly I don't think there is any real answers to this, just theory's.
Whoops I guess there was really know question in that but.... That's what I thin may be happening lol I apparently have no reading comprehension skills!

All male livebearers will attempt to mate with anything that moves if they don't have females. I had a male platy attempt to mate with a female molly.

When I had just male guppies and no females, they tried to mate with the cherry barbs haha! Don't worry, guppies/platies can't crossbreed.
