Hi Folks

This always happens with my over-eager Betta boys. Shard, my steel blue crowntail, always makes lovely big nests for himself. I put him in the breeding tank, put in my copper crowntail girl (from KGBettas) in the chimney, and Shard spends two days straight flaring and trying to get to the girl through the glass. He wont make a nest as he seems too intent on breeding NOW. I reckon if I let her out he will tear her to pieces trying to breed without a nest in place. Should I leave them as they are until he makes a nest, should I leave her out and hope he makes one as she would refuse him, or should I remove her and see if he makes one alone, then put her back in the chimney?

Thanks
Lee

Hi
A lot of people are at work this time of day dont froget?

How long have the pair been conditioned for, and how long have they been able to see each other?

Cheers

Hi Folks

They have both been conditioned for 4 weeks. She is definitely a female. They have been able to see each other for 2 days. Have tried a bubblenest transplant from another males tank but all Shard wants to do is get to the female. Its frustrating as his nests are normally so good. I might take her back out to see if he calms down and makes a nest like he normally does when alone

Thanks
Lee

Taro was my best bubblenester......until he went into the spawning tank that is  His nest was useless but still managed to have over 100 fry hatch. Alot of them were hanging on to the polystyrene. It might be that he'll start making one once she is out but I would keep a very close eye on them to make sure he doesn't get too rough with her.
