Hi there ....
I have a well planted mature tank (see below) and a couple of days ago
added a male Betta that I got from the LFS. He is bright blue and really beautiful.

The LFS thought that my male Cichlid may be a problem with aggression - but I know him
to be very placid in temperament having never seen him have a go at another fish.

I thought that the Betta may be aggressive towards the Cichlid but the LFS didn't think that would
happen. So on that basis I bought him and placed him in my community tank.

So far, fingers crossed, there has been no sign of aggression from any of them - early days but
the signs are ooking good :good:

just keep a very close eye on them both, male bettas can seem fine then snap and go mental at everything

My male betta has never gone at my apistos, they have entirely different territories. Betta being top and middle, apistos being mainly bottom, they do cross paths but never anything more than the odd flare (from the apisto not the betta). I wouldn't worry, a lot of people who keep apistos, have kept bettas in the same tank, with no issues.

Would worry about the betta causing damage, apisto would have the upper hand to that and I reckon that's why my betta doesn't start anything

It's interesting that your bettas are middle/ toppers. Mine are toppers/ bottomers.

Yeah - mine either sits in floating vegetation near the top,
or sometime lies on the ground resting.

He does do abit of swimming to and fro in front of the tank - but this has
got less as he settles in.

So far no real problems - I have seen a couple of displays from both the Apisto and the Beta
at feeding time, otherwise they ignore each other.
I'm going to get some Beta pellets that float on the surface, may keep him away from the
live food on the ground which is definitely Apisto territory.

Good luck with that. I tried it, so my sinking catfish pellets would be eaten by the catfish..

Nope. Betta grabs them and swims away with it, and completely ignored his floating food. Baka Betta
