My Betta Smaragdinas spawned the other day so I took some pictures of the male in full breeding colors with the nest he made. Today the fry hatched (do ya say hatched when your talking about fish? :*) ) well anyways I've seen a couple of fry in the tank. They are so tiny but so cute  Not sure if they will survive but fingers crossed :)

These arn't the greatest pictures but it was hard getting really any good pictures of him. If some of you dont know usually male betta smaragdinas are pretty pale in coloring and only look like this when they are breeding so you don't often see them looking like this. Too bad they don't look like this all the time -_-

After having a nice feed of brine shrimp. Check out his belly :p

He spent the majority of his time these past 3-5 days right up and under the log always fixing things

Here's a clearer picture of the nest

Oh and please excuse the snail poo :*) I tried not to disturb that area too much when doing water changes. The male actually attached me and bit me. Not that it hurt though. :)

What a lovely boy, looks like he's being a good daddy too

interesting, never seen a betta construct a nest underneath the water's surface before, but its actually quite an interesting idea! If theres an air pocket, or even if the betta is prepared to take the bubbles down under the log it would work..

I know I was surprised he built a nest under the log too. I always thought bettas built nests on the surface of water :dunno: At the moment he has built a nest under an amazon sword leaf on the surface so I guess he's just versatile :p

I just took a couple more pictures. Sorry about the white fuzz on the glass. I just cleaned it with paper towel and didn't realize they were there til after I took the pics :S

Argh, this would of been a pretty good pic but look at all the white fuzz  Oh well

Fantastic! I always enjoy your tanks, they're so beautiful. What spoiled little smaragdina you have  I've already mentioned how I love his nests, but again...how darling!

They are spoiled :p I'd like to add something else to the tank but I haven't wanted to disturb them so maybe khuli loaches are the way to go?

Well somemore updates I didn't even know they would be spawning again so soon but they have. The male built another nest but I didn't think there was anything in it but guess what? Today there are little wigglers clinging to the sides of the amazon sword leaves and all inside the nest :hyper: I didn't even see any inbracing or that the female was plump enough with eggs.

Anyways I took somemore pictures. I took a small video too but I can't get it to upload to photobucket :/

Here's what the nest finally ended up looking like. Look how tall it is :flex:

Not being into bettas myself, how do you manage rearing the fry especially males.
Glorious pics by the way..
