Could I get a male betta for my comunity tank. Here are the following fish currently in the tank:

1 platy
1 honey gourami
4 corydoras
3 yoyo loaches
1 clown pleco
2 neon tetras
2 leopard danios
3 black skirt tetras

I recently lost my betta girl and I am not quite ready for another yet, so I was thinking about getting a male. :)

I am still really sad about lunas death so I am still not sure if I will get another betta though.

Black skirt Tetras can be nippy, although 3 might not be.

Bettas will often begin to solve boredom by messing with the corys who are shy fish and will then hide more. Cories hide when they feel threatened.

Platys and Bettas are not recommended at all.

I don't know about some of the fish.

I have lots of reservations regarding Bettas in communities. Many feel that they have been very successful with their communities that have Bettas. It is a hottly debated issue.

I had my female betta in that exact comunity. She was the best fish in there. Her best friend was the platy, who is very depressed that she died. Is it just because she was a female? She was also really good friends with my gourami who died right after she did  . Luna my female betta used to go and hang out with the corys, it was kind of funny. She was friends with all the fish. The tank seems very empty now that she is gone.

I've always found platies to be great tankmates for bettas - but black skirts are nippy, neons can also nip, danios and yoyo loaches are sometimes over-active and the honey certainly won't work with a male betta. So I wouldn't do it.

I guess I will just forget this idea and get more danios and tetras so they can school.

I will get a male betta for my two gallon instead.
