Alas, the day has finally come!

My male betta had died this morning, I wouldn't put it down to anything in particular but he was old (guessing over 2) and was constantly fighting scepticemia and finrot. He'd been fighting it for nealry 18 months, so I am suprised he lasted this long tbh.

RIP little man x

Sorry to hear about your loss BethK.
I remember you saying that you had him in a community tank
which is what I'm trying with mine.

Are you going to look for another one ??

He loved the community tank, never bothered the other fish and vice versa. I won't be trying another male betta, I'm focusing on my apistogrammas now. I still have 1 female betta left, who wasn't rehomed and seems to be happy.

I've had abit of flaring between the male Beta and the male Apisto at feeding time -
otherwise they seem to pretty much ignore each other.

Its a well planted tank with lots of floating vegetation where the Beta likes to hang out.
I'm keeping an eye on things but am optomistic it will work out :good:

How long as the betta been in the community for?

There was slight flaring at first, between my boy and the apisto but it died down. I would see if you can get betta floating pellets and have the sinking ones too, least they will stay out the way then x

Yes thats a good idea - I got him from the LFS last Friday.
They said frozen bloodworm etc would be fine - but I saw on another post
they like to feed off the surface.

When this snow gets abit easier I'll have a look for some floating pellets ....
it will keep them apart at feeding as you say

Hey Beth, is the pic in your sig the tank you kept him in? When I was keeping bettas in my 20gal, I found that after I blacked out the rear of the tank, they didn't stress out as much.

I used "Flat Black" Krylon spraypaint. It worked out so well that I've made it a practice to have the backs of all my tanks blacked out.
