heya im anoob to bettas i got a 25L tank and its currently cycling i wouldnt mind a betta but as there ment to be aggresive im not sure where to start!
is the tank appropriate?
what mates
wanted butterfly cichlids or blue ram cichlid....
dunno if there ok with the betta species....
ive never seen bettas before and saw one with long fins etc assume it was mail he was so tiny but i know they get bigger,
so really the Q is will the cichlids go ok with it or what would??

p.s not keen on shrimp, frogs or snails....

so help what do you think?

Unfortunately 25L is far too small for Cichlids... Male Betta's are best kept on their own although some do keep them in community tanks with no problems..

ok thanks scrub that idea im using a 15 gallon and swapping the guppies into the new 25L

defo no to cichlids with betta, and like said before to small for cichlids on a long term position.
27L filtered tank is perfect for a betta, a couple of pygmy cories do just fine with bettas, you might get the betta being a little grumpy with them at first but when they know they are no threat he will leave them alone, one thing that most people go through is thinnk that the betta will get lonely on his own so opt for tank mates but this isnt the case, as long as he get his tank re-arranged every 1 or 2 weeks he will be kept busy exploring, having him in a semi traffic part of the house is good too as this will also stimulate him enough to lead a happy life, the occasional once a week for 10 mins with a mirror at the side of his tank will make him exercise his finnage as well but dont do it out of fun just to see it, a small amount of time is best for him for excercise reasons only.

feed him every other day with a very small amount of flake and a small amount of live foods once a week instead to encourage health, keep the temp at around 24 - 28 degrees, water change 10% once a week with a filtered tank to reduce fin problems and high nitrates and once a month with a 100% change minding that you acclimatize him back to the tank as if youve only just got him, recommended slowly over 30 mins.
Try to make sure that the filter in the tank isnt to strong as some bettas (not all) dont like the flow of water.

thats the basics and good luck

Forgot to mention and i'm no expert but i think that Cichlids need different water conditions to Betta's too.. Think the PH needs to be higher but someone more in the know will tell you more.. Some of the Cichlids are quite aggressive too... Good on you for doing your homework first though.. :good:

sorry to sound blunt but cichlids and betta do not mix. just dont want you to go ahead with it thinking that they do b/c this is what you want.

Lol thanks i knew that the females could be kept together so thort of using the 25l as a betta tank, but im going to move the guppies into the 25L and use the fiances 15 gallon tank for my blue or bollivian rams :)

my male lives currently with 5 neons and 4 zebra danios.....not recommended betta friends but they are getting along well, only had to remove 2 danios who were too pushy on the 2nd day after adding the betta, but since then he's grown more nand more comfortable....basically for fish other than the betta you need something smallish in size.....and with small fins so as if you have a more agressive betta he will not mistake longer finned fishes for other male bettas.
Best advice i can give though is read up on here about fishes suitable for bettas, and have a back up plan incase anything goes wrong....sectioning off your tank or having a spare tank for the betta incase disagreements happen :) :good:

Thanks :)
going to get a male betta and forgetting the cichlids,
arent bettas soooooooo cute?
hmmm still reading on stocking smaller fish (non nibblers ) with him

I think Corys make grate tankmates as long as your betta isn't one that attacks every thing that moves. Aslo I have been told that White Cloud Mountain Minnow are ok with betta tho never tried it myself.

btw we want pics! lol

Hiya,
Barbs are aggressive and are not good tank mates for a betta...
