title says it all!!

ive got a very small ich outbreak

i had one 4 weeks ago that killed my entire tank so im kinda worried now!!

I used API White Spot treatment which contains Malachite Green recently, it only took three dosages and cleared the tank, I also put some infected fish in brakish water and it also cleared up the ich but the Malachite Green was quicker but I feel more safe treating with salt if your fish and plants can handle it.

In fact treating with salt/heat is safer than using copper-based medications, which is why salt/heat is used whenever delicate fish like mormyrids and clown loaches are being kept. Use aquarium salt -- not marine salt mix -- at a dose of 2 grammes per litre whilst raising the water temperature to 25 C (for coldwater fish) or 30 C (for tropical fish). Leave the tank running this way for at least two weeks.

Cheers, Neale

PS. You may find this article I recently wrote about using salt in freshwater tanks helpful.
